WIndshield washer tank cap replacement

Windshield Washer Tank Cap Replacement

Part #: Dorman 47339

The cap for the windshield washer tank on my Jeep JK has started to leak fluid over the last couple of years. The cap itself was in good condition, but the foam seal underneath had become brittle and had curled up from the exposer to the chemical in the washer fluid. This would cause the tank to leak fluid if I hit a good bump in the road, or if I was off camber on the trails. I was also concerned that the foam seal would fall down inside the washer tank and get debris clogged into the washer pump. So it was time to replace it with a new cap. I did check the dealership and seeing that they practically wanted a left kidney for a new cap, I check Amazon for a Dorman and found the same cap for much less.

Tools Needed:

Dorman 47339

Parts:
The windshield washer tank cap on my JK would leak fluid everytime I hit a good bump, or was off camber while wheeling. Never enough to drain a tank, but just enough to leave residue and streaks on top of the tank. The cap itself was in good condition, but the foam seal underneath was loose, brittle and crumbling away after many years.

Installation:
Removal of the old cap and installation of the new is very simple. Open the cap and then pull forward on the base where it is hinged underneath a plastic hook attached to the washer tank. It should come out fairly easy, you shouldn't have to pry on the cap at all to get it out. Reinstall the new cap the same way.

Common Sense and Safety should always be observed when working on your vehicle or doing modifications. Jackstands, wheel blocks, disconnecting the battery are a few of the basic safety precautions that should be used and may not be mentioned in the write ups on this site. You are responsible for your own installation, these write ups are a helpful guideline and should not be taken as an official installation instruction. My write up may be different from the kits currently out there, so alwasy double check the manufacturers installation instructions when installing anything. I try to keep the site up to date with changes that have occured as I discover them, but may not have the latest unless someone lets me know. If you feel that an install is above your capabilities after reading my write ups, I recommend getting together with a club and getting some help. Only a few times have I needed to employe some actual help from a shop to get something done. Usually welding or A/C work. While I have spent many years working on mechanical systems, I am not an expert, nor do I pretend to be one. I hope these write ups have been useful to you.
