Bentolin Grill Inserts

Part #:

Living down south and wheeling in the areas around here I was constantly getting bugs, sticks and other debris up into the grill area because of the huge open slots in the grill. In the past I had tried a screen behind the grill, but it kept coming off, so this time around I figured that I would get some inserts that fit into the slots vice going in behind the grill. I picked these up for cheap off of Amazon to try and after having to get a second set because the first set showed up with the tabs broken off due to pitiful packing I was finally able to install them. These came in a matte black finish, so it off set the Dozer colored grill nicely.

Additional Parts:

Tools Needed:
None

Parts:
You get seven (7) plastic inserts that just clip into the slots on the grill.

Installation:

1. Clean off the area where the inserts are going to go. Then press the inserts in until you hear the clips click into place. If you ever want to get these off without breaking the clips, you will need to remove the grill to get access to them. You will have a little bit of up and down play in them, so I was able to get the ones in behind my winch with very little effort.
Before and After.

Follow up:
I ended up removing these after taking a long trip and noticing how hot the engine was getting after a few hours on the freeway. Now, this wasn't really noticeable around town, but watching temps rise on the Torque App did let me know that I had cut off some air flow to the radiator and it wasn't cooling as much as it did in the past. I also noticed that while the inserts stopped quite a few bugs from getting to the radiator, some still did and trying to clean them out required a lot more work.

Common Sense and Safety should always be observed when working on your vehicle or doing modifications. Jackstands, wheel blocks, disconnecting the battery are a few of the basic safety precautions that should be used and may not be mentioned in the write ups on this site. You are responsible for your own installation, these write ups are a helpful guideline and should not be taken as an official installation instruction. My write up may be different from the kits currently out there, so alwasy double check the manufacturers installation instructions when installing anything. I try to keep the site up to date with changes that have occured as I discover them, but may not have the latest unless someone lets me know. If you feel that an install is above your capabilities after reading my write ups, I recommend getting together with a club and getting some help. Only a few times have I needed to employe some actual help from a shop to get something done. Usually welding or A/C work. While I have spent many years working on mechanical systems, I am not an expert, nor do I pretend to be one. I hope these write ups have been useful to you.
