2012 JK Under the Hood

Under the Hood

Just when I thought you couldn't put much else under the hood of a JK from the factory. Chrysler does it again with stuffing the 3.6L Pentastar engine under there. Not much room left to put anything else in there. Amazingly I think a 5.7L Hemi allows for just a little more room. Most of the layout hasn't changed from the previous years. All the various reservoirs are still where they were before.
The battery has been turned, though it looks like the tray hasn't been modified other than incorporating that change.
They changed the intake a little for the air box. The new lip appears to be more of a heat shield than a splash shield. They did bolt the intake pipe to the radiator, so now you need to do a little more work just to change the air filter.
Chrysler did add a piece of plastic to the front edge of the grill. I don't get the same hood flutter that I used to get, but this might be due to new hood latches, vice my 5 year old ones that I had.
For those of us that have an Automatic transmission, the dipstick is now located underneath the engine cover.
The oil filter (now a cartridge) is on top of the engine, should be interesting for the first oil change, but at least I won't get oil splashed in my face while taking it off.
Pull the cover off and this is what you have for the engine. Kind of plastic looking covers and intake. The sparkplugs are now located through the valve covers, so removal should be easier.

Common Sense and Safety should always be observed when working on your vehicle or doing modifications. Jackstands, wheel blocks, disconnecting the battery are a few of the basic safety precautions that should be used and may not be mentioned in the write ups on this site. You are responsible for your own installation, these write ups are a helpful guideline and should not be taken as an official installation instruction. My write up may be different from the kits currently out there, so alwasy double check the manufacturers installation instructions when installing anything. I try to keep the site up to date with changes that have occured as I discover them, but may not have the latest unless someone lets me know. If you feel that an install is above your capabilities after reading my write ups, I recommend getting together with a club and getting some help. Only a few times have I needed to employe some actual help from a shop to get something done. Usually welding or A/C work. While I have spent many years working on mechanical systems, I am not an expert, nor do I pretend to be one. I hope these write ups have been useful to you.
